Yep. It sounded as if it was not speculation but that he *is* indeed involved in it but that it had to be postponed because he is going to start working on The Stranger. Has been moved to autumn, I think.

Ist auch schade um die Grundidee der Serie und die guten Ansätze.

Sergio Dow dirigirá la adaptación cinematográfica de la novela de Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

Es una de las novelas de Arturo Pérez-Reverte más vendidas y también uno de los títulos que lleva más años sonando como candidato para ser llevado a la gran pantalla. ‘La piel del tambor’, que ya fue una serie de televisión titulada ‘Quart’ y protagonizada por Roberto Enríquez y Ana Álvarez en 2007 en Antena 3, podría estar más cerca de tener su propia versión cinematográfica con un potente reparto internacional encabezado por Richard Armitage, Paz Vega, Geraldine Chaplin, John Legizamo, Paul Guilfoyle y Marlon Moreno.
Producida por Enrique Cerezo, la cinta estará dirigida por el colombiano Sergio Dow y, si todo sigue su curso, podría arrancar su rodaje en unos meses. Con los títulos provisionales de ‘The Seville Comunion’ y ‘The Man From Rome’, la película, ambientada en 1995, contará la historia de Lorenzo Quart, un sacerdote que es enviado a Sevilla a investigar unas misteriosas muertes después de que un hacker que ha conseguido infiltrarse en el ordenador del mismísimo Papa avise de los incidentes.
Pérez-Reverte, que sí participó en el guion de la serie de Antena 3, ha dejado caer que conoce la existencia del proyecto pero que no está “muy al tanto”.
‘La piel del tambor’ se sumará a las adaptaciones audiovisuales de novelas del escritor, entre las que figuran ‘La reina del sur’, ‘El maestro de esgrima’, ‘Alatriste’, ‘La carta esférica’ o ‘Territorio comanche’.

Based on the book by Arturo Perez-Reverte and being sold at the Cannes Virtual Market by Moonstone, the film follows a Vatican agent sent to investigate several mysterious killings at a church.
Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy), Paz Vega (Spanglish) and John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge) are set to star in the theological crime thriller The Man from Rome, based on the bestselling book of the same name by famed Spanish author Arturo Perez-Reverte and set to start shooting in Spain in February, The Hollywood Reporter can reveal.
Geraldine Chaplin, Paul Guilfoyle and Marlon Moreno will also star in the project, unveiled by Enrique Cerezo Producciones Cinematograficas, Drumskin Productions and Fundacion Enic Producciones. It is being soldat the Cannes Virtual Market, which kicked off on Monday, with Moonstone Films handling international sales.
Award-winning Colombian filmmaker Sergio Dow (Hemingway, the Hunter of Death) directs from his own script, with two-time Oscar nominated cinematographer Ed Lachman (Carol, The Virgin Suicides, Desperately Seeking Susan) behind the camera.
The Man from Rome centers on Father Lorenzo Quart (Armitage), an agent of the Vatican's intelligence system, who is sen to Seville in Spain to investigate several mysterious killings at a crumbling church, under threat of being torn down. Along the way, he encounters a range of peculiar and less-than-honest characters, including an aristocratic divorcee, an old foe in the form of an Archbishop and a henchman working for a group of real estate investors.
The Spanish-Colombian co-production is being produced by Enrique Cerezo, Alina Hleap and Rich Cowan.
