13. Richard Armitage

Way back when it seemed that Zack Snyder might repeat the Man of Steel approach and cast a relative unknown (at least to North American audiences) in the part of an older, more experienced Batman, Richard Armitage made his way to the top of our list. Described by some as an English version of Hugh Jackman (in size, appearance, and skill on screen), his ability to play composed, analytical, and heroically determined characters seemed to make him a solid fit for the “world’s greatest detective” version of the Dark Knight. Many of those same qualities would extend to Darkseid, assuming that Snyder and the DCEU intend to create a lasting villain – in which case, depth, complexity, and above all a somewhat tragic villain are all prerequisites.

Audiences have already gotten a look at Armitage’s take on those emotions in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. Sure, it may have been hard to make Armitage out under all that hair and CG, but his turn as Thorin Oakenshield was a riddle to be solved from the moment he stepped into the story. So, proud and self-assured ruler? Check. But in the event that the villain is intended to be a bit more threatening, a bit more vicious… well, Armitage’s role as Hannibal‘s Francis Dolarhyde proves he’s up to the task.

Jude Law to Play Young Dumbledore in 'Fantastic Beasts' Sequel

David Yates is directing the follow-up to last year's Harry Potter spinoff, which is slated to hit theaters

Nov. 16, 2018.

The first film's central foursome — Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler — are also all set to return for the sequel, featuring a script by J.K. Rowling. Unlike the initial movie's New York City setting, the follow-up takes place in Paris and Watford, England.

Law's casting puts him opposite Johnny Depp, who was revealed to be the infamous wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the first film. Dumbledore and Grindelwald were friends when they were teens, but grew apart after Dumbledore suffered a devastating family loss. Grindelwald then grew into one of the most powerful dark wizards in history.

"Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was." Rowling has said. In the sequel, “you will see Dumbledore as a younger man and quite a troubled man. We’ll see him at that formative period of his life."

The first Fantastic Beasts movie — which kicked off a five-film spinoff series — grossed $813 million at the box office in 2016. Rowling, David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram are producing the second film, with Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen as executive producers.

Law next is set to appear in Guy Ritchie's retelling of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Brady Corbet's musical drama Vox Lux. He is repped by WME and Julian Belfrage Associates.

Großartige Wahl! :niwi:

Irgendwas wabert da in meinem Hirn...

Edit: Ich hab's!

Which Dumbledore do we think Jude Law looks most like? Harris or Gambon? We're inclined to think Gambon - but maybe this was taken into consideration when styling?

And here we go! Staffel 'Berlin Station'.

If Disney Buys Fox, Richard Armitage Should Be The New Wolverine

Written by Edward Wallace
December 6, 2017

As sad as we all are that the Hugh Jackman era of Wolverine is over, there is no doubt that the Hollywood studios will be looking at actors to replace him moving forward. With rumours brooding that Disney is closing in on a deal to purchase 21st Century Fox’s movie and television production operations, Richard Armitage would make perfect sense as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For most fans, Richard Armitage is not a name that they initially recognise. However, it was recently announced that Richard, who made a name for himself by acting in films like Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit (as Thorin Oakenshield) and TV shows like Spooks and Hannibal, will be lending his voice to the X-Men character in Marvel’s first-ever scripted podcast, Wolverine: The Long Night. The announcement was a dream come true for many fans as the 46-year-old British actor has long been a fan-favourite to replace Jackman due to the striking resemblance between the two (both rough-but-handsome and grizzled) and his interesting acting methods.

As a method actor, Armitage tends to keep “character diaries” with entire biographies for the characters he plays. “It was important to me to put in a background for my character that would be useful for the whole journey. A lot of that is secret and no one gets to read that. It’s what is useful to me. If you are playing something long-running and a role that has a future [beyond the initial series], it’s almost like you have to plant a garden which you will need to come back to at some point. If you don’t put in early, it can jar with you.”

Zack Snyder initially met with Richard Armitage for the role of Batman. Sadly, even after emerging as a front-runner to play the iconic character, he lost the part in Batman v Superman to Ben Affleck. Perhaps he’ll get the opportunity to show off his acting chops as a replacement to Jackman’s Wolverine?

He definitely has the looks. At 6’2″, the theatre-trained actor has a deep, rich voice, and genuinely has the acting ability to play just about any character he wants. If you think he is too tall, remember he has played a dwarf before.

There aren’t many actors who are able to step into the shoes of the legendary Hugh Jackman, but Armitage might just be able to pull it off. When you consider the characters possible move from Fox back to Marvel, he certainly seems like a suitable choice. Just imagine Wolverine fighting alongside the Avengers or appearing in a Spider-Man film. For now, we can only dream.
