Von der Optik her passt kein anderer so gut, wie er. DH soll ihn doch auch ganz gerne sehen .
Aber nachdem die Casting-directors leider schon oft genug mit Blindheit geschlagen sind und ich der BBC mit mit ihren Entscheidungen mittlerweile leider nicht mehr ganz traue... es bleibt abzuwarten.

Richard zumindest schien damals, als er das Buch zugeschickt bekam, an der Rolle interessiert gewesen zu sein.. er hatte doch sogar die betreffende Dame, die es ihm zugesandt hatte, angerufen und sein Interesse bekundet.
Wie er es aber momentan sieht .

Was die Verfilmung angeht- eine gut gemachte TV-Serie wird dem Buch sicher eher gerecht werden, als ein Kinofilm..

Es bleibt abzuwarten... und Tee Wein trinken ...

ITV to resurrect classic TV drama The Saint

Writer Ed Whitmore hopes to have the script for a remake of the classic Roger Moore drama finished and ready for filming in 2016

The Saint – otherwise known as the Saville Row-clad righter-of-wrongs Simon Templar – is to be reborn.

An ITV pilot will revive the scourge of international bad guys, originally invented by Leslie Charteris and played from 1962 to 1969 by Roger Moore before he became James Bond.

In fact, the pilot episode should be ready to film next year, says Ed Whitmore who is writing the new drama with Chris Lunt – the writer behind the John Simm drama Prey.

The character of Templar – best know for leaving a calling card of a stick figure of a man with a halo at the scene of his "crimes" – was hugely popular in his day, and Whitmore tells RadioTimes.com that the time is ripe for a modern-day re-imagining.

“There is a post-Breaking Bad appetite for morally grey characters,” says Whitmore, who's also penned the upcoming ITV serial Arthur & George based on Julian Barnes’ book about a real-life case involving Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

“Simon Templar is a kind of Robin Hood figure, he's timeless,” he adds.

But Whitmore says he's still not sure who should play our buccaneering hero. If only we had a few well spoken and good-looking actors in Britain, eh?

While we are anxiously awaiting to see the premiere of TUT three part mini series at Spike on July 19th, over across the ocean, British ITV has announced the work on four part mini series TUTANKHAMUN, but unlike TUT, which deals with the Pharaoh himself, this one will bring the true story of how Howard Carter came to discover the tomb of Ancient Egypt's boy-king. The story will begin in 1905 as he leads an expedition to find lost treasures in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. However, he finds himself living rough when his license to dig is revoked, and he is forced to sell his previous finds in order to survive. An unlikely friendship with a British aristocrat named Lord Carnavon brings Carter back to archaeology, and helps him make one of the most significant discoveries of the modern age. Peter Webber (GIRL WITH A PEARL EARING) is directing!

LONDON, July 8 (UPI) — British broadcaster ITV says it has commissioned a four-part drama series called Tutankhamun, which will tell the story of archeologist Howard Carter’s discovery of the tomb of one of Ancient Egypt’s forgotten pharaohs.

Set in the early 20th century, the event miniseries written by Guy Burt “will focus on the legendary personal story of Carter, a solitary man on the edge of society who became an iconic figure and an unlikely hero,” a news release said.

[b]No casting for the series has been announced yet. Filming is to take place in South Africa during the winter of 2015 and early part of 2016.

The drama will be executive produced by ITV Studios Creative Director of Drama Francis Hopkinson and Catherine Oldfield. Simon Lewis will produce and Peter Webber is to direct.

“Howard Carter’s discovery of the lost tomb of Tutankhamun is legendary,” Hopkinson said in a statement Wednesday. “His all-consuming, obsessive search for the tomb pushed his friendship with Lord Carnarvon to the brink, whilst the adventurous and extrovert aristocrat poured his inheritance into the excavation.”

Oldfield added: “This is a fascinating and compelling story with real historical significance. It’s based on true events and reveals how Carter desperately tries to persuade his patron (Carnarvon) to continue to bankroll the excavation. Ultimately, it’s the story of what happens when you stake everything on one last roll of the dice.”
