Let’s be honest, within the world of soap, ‘Doctors’ tends to get a bit of a raw deal.
The BBC serial drama has now been on the air for 15 years, but still often doesn’t manage to receive the same recognition as its primetime rivals, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘EastEnders’, although it does have a loyal following from daytime viewers.
However, one area that ‘Doctors’ can definitely stand up on its own two feet, is when it comes to impressive guest stars.
After doing a bit of digging, we were surprised to learn just how many big names have appeared in the soap over the past 15 years, either in cameo roles or playing minor parts in guest appearances.
Among the stars who have appeared include stand-up comedians, high-profile British actors, thespians and even one particularly impressive recent Oscar -winner.
We’ve managed to cut the mammoth list of surprising big-name guest stars down to just 14 who we thought were the the most unlikely, impressive or famous.
Other stars to have appeared in ‘Doctors’ include a number of actors from the world of soap, including former ‘Coronation Street’ stars Adam Rickitt, Natalie Gumede and Amanda Barrie, as well as ‘EastEnders’ graduates, Nigel Harman, Michael Greco and Tracey-Ann Oberman.
Earlier this year, the soap picked up its first British Soap Award in five years, when Jessica Regan won Best Newcomer, for her portrayal of Niamh Donoghue.
‘Doctors’ airs on weekdays, at 1.45pm, on BBC One.
