A BOTTESFORD boy is on the road to fame as he tours the country playing one of the lead roles in a theatre production of The Full Monty and prepares for the release of a film that could be selected at the famous Cannes Film Festival.
Fraser Kelly is currently playing the role of Nathan in the production – with EastEnders and Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy playing his dad Gaz.
The 12-year-old, who goes to Frederick Gough school, also played the lead role in a film called Urban and The Shed Crew with Hobbit star Richard Armitage and TV and film actress Anna Friel, which is in the post-production phase and has been submitted for selection at the Cannes Film Festival.
Fraser's mum, Amanda Kelly, said he started acting because of her love of performing.
She said: "I have always sung and used to work on cruise ships. Then I started working for Wilton Productions and took the kids with me and it just went from there.
"Fraser has been in a few adverts, and was in a production for the Hull Truck Theatre, but The Full Monty is the first professional work he's done."
There are four boys playing Nathan, which means Fraser tours for two weeks at a time before coming home and back to school, but Amanda says it doesn't faze him.
"It's amazing. The one good thing is that he's so grounded.
"He does get a bit nervous, but he takes it all in his stride and loves it.
"One of the actors on the Full Monty told me he stands in the wings watching everything that's going on.
"I miss him when he's not here. He has a chaperone who looks after him and does his schooling when he's away."
Amanda said Fraser did watch the film of the Full Monty before taking on the role – despite the swearing.
"I think that's an everyday thing. He hears bad language at school, but as long as he knows not to use it unless he's on stage," Amanda said.
Fraser also played the lead role of Urban in the film Urban and The Shed Crew, which is based on a true story.
Amanda said: "It's about some kids that the system has failed and they live in a shed at the bottom of somebody's garden.
"He plays a 12-year-old glue-sniffing car thief.
"He met the person that the story was based on who is now in his 30s and has turned his life around.
"Fraser found the role difficult knowing that a kid has lived through that and he's not known anything like that in his life.
"The film will hopefully be shown at Cannes if it gets selected."
And Fraser has been teaching a thing or two to Hollywood star Richard Armitage.
"During some Hobbit press, Richard was talking about the new film and said he was working with a little boy who is an incredible little actor," Amanda added.
Fraser will be on tour until May next year and then plans to have a rest before the next project comes along.
