Man mag ja über die Serie denken, was man möchte, aber sie gehörte offensichtlich zu den am häufigsten gegoogelten Serien des Jahres 2020!

This year more than ever we've been glued to our TV screens. Whether we've been actively self-isolating or just waiting out the lockdown period, TV shows and movies have kept us entertained, distracted and uplifted during pretty tough and scary times.

Today, Google announces the results of its 'Year in Search' for 2020, including the TV shows that captured the world’s attention through the lens of Google Search. So how many of the most-Googled TV shows of this year have you seen?

Unsurprisingly, some of this year's most popular shows that totally dominated our WhatsApp group chats at the time have made the cut. When the BBC dropped Normal People back in April, the nation was hooked on Marianne and Connell’s love affair. We follow the pair from their small-town Irish high school school to university at Dublin's Trinity College, and watch as the complexities of their friendship evolve over time, both together and apart. If you haven't watched it yet, get thee to iPlayer immediately.

And in the least surprising news ever, Tiger King was one of the most searched-for shows of 2020, too. Netflix kept us thoroughly entertained back in March with the absolutely wild series about the gun-toting, big cat-obsessed Joe Exotic, who ran an exotic animal zoo and eventually – spoiler alert – got banged up on charges of animal abuse and murder-to-hire involving one Carole Baskin.

But even though this year’s summer series of Love Island was postponed because of the pandemic, it was the top trending TV programme of the year, as we all searched for info on our favourite reality dating show. Elsewhere, sinister thrillers proved popular this year, with searches for 'Dennis Nilsen', the serial killer who inspired Des taking second place; while White House Farm, The Stranger, The Fall and The Undoing also claiming top spots this year.

So how many of the most searched-for TV shows of 2020 have you seen? Spoiler alerts incoming...

1. Love Island

Despite this year’s summer series of Love Island being postponed because of Coronavirus, it was the top trending TV show of the year with many of us flocking to Google to search for updates on our most-loved reality show. But great news! Love Island will start casting for 2021 soon, so fingers crossed our fave show will be back ASAP.

2. Dennis Nilsen (Des)

Even though Des only landed on ITV in September, searches for Dennis Nilsen came flooding in and ended up dominated this year's searches. The gripping three-parter set in the 1980s was hailed by viewers as one of the best crime dramas ever made. David Tennant plays Dennis ‘Des’ Nilson, a Scottish serial killer who repeatedly got away with heinous crimes to the homeless and vulnerable before his eventual arrest aged 37.

White House Farm aired on ITV in January, telling the story of one of Britain's most chilling crimes. The six-part series dramatises the Jeremy Bamber murders that took place at an Essex farmhouse in 1985, which saw five members of the Bamber family murdered, most of them as they slept. 5. The Stranger

The Netflix adaption of Harlan Coben's novel The Stranger took the world by storm in January, telling the story of Adam Price, a man who is visited by a mysterious stranger who tells him a devastating secret that turns his seemingly perfect life upside-down – and whose wife goes missing as a result.

6. Tiger King

It was as though the whole world was obsessed with Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness earlier this year. The documentary introduced us to the totally bonkers world of Joe Exotic, the infamous collector of big cats, and follows his story from country-singing zoo keeper to convicted criminal.

7. The Fall

When Netflix added The Fall this year, it got many of us re-obsessed with the crime drama which aired between 2013 and 2016. Gillian Anderson plays Metropolitan Police Superintendent Stella Gibson who is summoned to Belfast to track down a serial killer, known as the 'Belfast Strangler' (played by Jamie Dornan). Can she solve the case before he targets his next victim?

9. The Undoing

Yes, The Undoing only landed on Now TV recently, but if you've seen the Nicole Kidman-starring drama of the YEAR, you'll understand why it's made Google's top 10 list. The story follows Grace Fraser, a highly successful psychologist, and her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant), an acclaimed paediatric oncologist. When one of the mothers at Grace and Jonathan's son's school is found dead, their lives will never be the same again.

10. Gangs of London

This dark, violent show tells the story of multiple criminal factions taking over London, and the chaos caused when the head of one of the capital's most powerful crime families is assassinated.
