I have a lot of time for @RCArmitage. I had a friend, Wyn (who sadly died about 10 years ago), who wanted to get into acting. Anyway, she wrote to Richard Armitage to ask for some tips, and he took the time to *hand write* a five page reply. What an absolute hero!

Hannah: "Richard is brilliant, he's such a sweetheart. He loves his work and works really hard at it. He’s fun too. He got me to do the flossing dance! haha. But Richard loved the whole family dynamic playing a dad to the two boys, Misha and Jacob (who played Ryan & Thomas). They made themselves a real family by coming up with great ideas together. It was Richard's idea in the kitchen scene where Thomas is saying, 'I think Mom is having an affair' and Richard was saying, 'this is where he's trying to really be a comforting dad and I should be getting him milk and cookies.' This is what dad should do when mom is not there. And dad is always making Spaghetti Bolognese. Love that. Richard came up with great ideas all the time."

Did you have any input into how Richard Armitage voiced each of the characters in the audiobook? They all have such a distinctive tone of voice, and it really brings the audiobook to life!

Not only did I not have input, but Mr. Armitage brought so much creativity and wisdom to his choices that at times I felt like I was hearing my own words for the first time. He even gave Yardley Sinclair the perfect Scottish accent, a brilliant choice that had completely escaped this author during the writing of it! Mr. Armitage elevated the entire text with his acting gifts, and with the interior monologues in particular (Adeline by the window seat after the loss of her baby, Dr. Gray in the graveyard, Adam during the first full meeting of the society), I was moved to tears for the first time ever. The entire experience of hearing my words come alive in this way has given me even greater appreciation for the level of his talent and generosity as an actor.

AWW: Guy must have hated his black leather in the summer.

FT: The summers were awful. I mean, it was very good. The boys loved their costumes. They were thrilled when they first put them on. They really got into them, emotionally inhabited them. It was terrific. But that was about March. And by the time August came, they were ... the temperature was over 30 degrees (Celsius). They could hardly move. And Little John in his big leather coat! But he was very good, he didn't try to take it off. Robin kept trying to ... I shouldn't tell you that ... Jonas [Armstrong] kept trying to take all his clothes off, just because he was so hot and to be firmly bundled back into them.

AWW: But Richard Armitage didn't?

FT: No, he loved black leather. He wasn't getting out of that, no matter what. [Laughs.]
