How to buy Obsession star Richard Armitage's debut psychological thriller novel

Geneva has been optioned by Sony for a potential TV series.

Obsession star Richard Armitage has a psychological thriller novel coming out in hardback next week.

First arriving in audiobook form last autumn, Armitage's futuristic psychological thriller Geneva is now approaching its print publication date of Thursday, October 12.

Armitage joined The One Show this week to promote his "temporary" career-path change.

"Whenever I've created a character, I've always written an extensive biography that was never designed to be read by anybody. It's a bit like saying I dance in a nightclub but now I'm going on Strictly," he told presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas after being asked what inspired him.

"But I was offered the opportunity to write something [by Audible], so I started to kind of hone it and yeah, I came up with a type of show that I'm really into.

"It's about a Nobel Prize-winning scientist called Sarah Collier, who is lured out of retirement to travel to Geneva to endorse a controversial neural implant called 'Neuralink', and she gets caught up in the middle of an appalling crime and she has to get out of Geneva."

Publishing house Faber and Faber was so impressed by his audiobook creation, they "picked it up" and even sold the adaptation rights to Sony.

Armitage revealed: "Sony have optioned the book, so we are gonna be moving forward into a potential television series. If I pull my finger out, we should be doing that sometime in the next couple of years."

Pressed by Jenas on who he'd like to play the protagonist of the story, the star confirmed he'd sent the book "to a very special actress" in the hope she'd be interested in the role of Sarah.

"But I can't say who it is in case she doesn't like it and says no!" he added.
