Join us on Sunday 19 April for this one-night-only Gala Celebration to honour Kevin Spacey and recognise his extraordinary 11 years as Artistic Director of The Old Vic. This spectacular event, hosted by Hugh Bonneville, will bring together a host of Spacey’s theatrical friends and colleagues, including musical performances from Annie Lennox and Sting.

Kevin Spacey revived the fortunes and reputation of The Old Vic when he became Artistic Director in 2003 and, as an actor, Kevin has delighted audiences on our stage and around the world. Through his inspirational leadership, he has put The Old Vic back at the heart of London theatre and secured its reputation on the international stage. His commitment to Old Vic New Voices, our mentoring programme for emerging talent, and our education and community work, has made a real difference to the lives of 100,000 young people and local residents in one of London’s most deprived boroughs.

All proceeds from the evening will go to The Old Vic Endowment Fund, co-chaired by Kevin Spacey and Sir Michael Hintze. The fund has been established to help secure the future of The Old Vic as a major producing house, whilst sustaining and developing our historic listed building for generations of theatre audiences to come.

This unmissable, glittering Gala will honour the actor, director and producer’s extraordinary contribution to The Old Vic and to British theatre, and can be experienced live at The Old Vic or at the live screening at the BFI Southbank.

Top 5 shows of the Spacey years
1. Richard III. Under Sam Mendes’s direction, Spacey gave us a lethally ironic double-Gloucester and capped the Old Vic run by playing the role in 198 performances around the world.

2. Speed-the-Plow. Jeff Goldblum and Spacey generated enough energy to power the national grid in Matthew Warchus’s rollercoaster revival of David Mamet’s satire on Hollywood insecurity.

3. The Crucible. Yaël Farber’s revival, starring Richard Armitage and Anna Madeley, reimagined Miller’s play as a study of male exploitation, rather than female hysteria.

4. Electra. Greek tragedy came to the Old Vic in Ian Rickson’s superb revival with Kristin Scott Thomas playing Sophocles’s distraught heroine like a woman possessed.

5. The Norman Conquests. Ayckbourn’s 1970s trilogy was brilliantly reclaimed in Warchus’s in-the-round staging, which turned us all into eavesdroppers on a comically horrendous family weekend.

Its a fine and beautiful thing to know what The Crucible meant to so many this time last year. Thanks for all tweets from around the world.
