NEW Image: Thranduil and Army in ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’

Hot on the heels of the series of character banners released over the last week, TheHobbitMovie tweeted a new image from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. We see a grim-faced Thranduil at the head of his army of elves. What foe might be the subject of that intense look?

Shortly before tweeting the new Thranduil image, TheHobbitMovie tweeted this now familiar image of Galadriel and Gandalf.

A new image this morning from Warner Bros., this time first on TORn and featuring the character we sometimes remember the whole story is named after, Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit!

Of note with this new image, old Bilbo is a changed man from promotional material of movies past. He is battle tested and trusty Sting is positively dripping with oil fluid orc blood. He is gritty and grim and ready to stab the viewer, giving us a glimpse of what death-by-Hobbit looks like. It also flashes back a bit to Frodo from “The Lord of the Rings,” when he is threatening Gollum with the same weapon.

If you aren’t watching the calendar, we are now just over two months from the release of the final Middle-earth movie of the Peter Jackson era with Extended Editions, red carpet premieres and hoped-for trailers also on the horizon. It’s a good time to be a Tolkienite!

We have, exclusively, the brand new poster for 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' and it shows a weary but unbeaten Thorin, ahead of the crashing finale of this epic series.

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. The Dwarves of Erebor have reclaimed the vast wealth of their homeland, but now must face the consequences of having unleashed the terrifying Dragon, Smaug, upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

As he succumbs to dragon-sickness, the King Under the Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield, sacrifices friendship and honor in his search for the legendary Arkenstone. Unable to help Thorin see reason, Bilbo is driven to make a desperate and dangerous choice, not knowing that even greater perils lie ahead.

An ancient enemy has returned to Middle-earth. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide - unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends as five great armies go to war.

Stars of the final film include regulars Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Evangeline Lily, Orlando Bloom, Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as a very welcome Billy Connolly.

‘The Hobbit’ Trailer Most Watched On YouTube In Third Quarter

The trailer for The Hobbit’s final sequel, The Battle Of The Five Armies, was YouTube’s most-watched entertainment-related video of the third quarter, the online giant said, pulling in nearly 17.3 million views, well ahead of trailers for the next Hunger Games installment and the first Fifty Shades Of Grey.


The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Pt. 1 nevertheless still spent the quarter as overexposed as anything in Fifty Shades, putting two trailers in the top 10 with a combined 29.1 million views on YouTube. YouTube observed that the massive interest in two trailers for the same film bodes well for the theatrical prospects for Mockingjay. That is probably true.

Among other of the quarter’s other highlights, two Bollywood films had trailers in the Top 10: action film Bang Bang!, which has been a strong international success, and Finding Fanny.

The list also includes trailers for two of the year’s most highly anticipated videogames, the record-setting sci-fi hybrid Destiny from Bungie and Activision’s upcoming Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which also set in the future as the latest sequel of that hugely successful franchise. That Destiny, a new franchise from a storied game developer, had more than double the views of the consistently successful CoD, may say something about whether Advanced Warfare will set another record for Activision.

On the other hand, Advanced Warfare’s trailer topped last quarter’s YouTube top 10 with nearly 21 million views. Put ‘em together, at about 26.6 million views, and we won’t worry about Bobby Kotick’s next meal.

YouTube passed along some other stats of note:

- Total views for the quarter’s top 10 were up 15 percent compared to Q2, at 107 million.
- Total minutes watched jumped 5 percent, to 168 million.
- On average, audiences watch 77 percent of a video.
- The top trailers are getting longer, as studios successfully test the patience of viewers with notoriously short attention spans. Most of the Top 10 were more than 2 minutes long.
- Seven of the Top 10 trailers were for movies this time. Only one, for ratings monster The Walking Dead, coming out of its (San Diego) Comic-Con panel in July, was for a TV show.
