Original Strike Back star Richard Armitage has booked the leading role in a new spy drama. Armitage - who portrayed Sgt. John Porter in the first season and one episode of the second season - will star in Berlin Station, an original series for premium movie channel EPIX, as CIA agent Daniel Meyer. The network made the casting announcement on Friday.
Meyer begins the program as a CIA agent at the Agency's Langley headquarters, then goes undercover in Berlin to locate an informant leaking information to a whistleblower. This brings him into contact with the operatives who populate the titular Berlin Station, including station chief Steven Frost (played by Richard Jenkins), section head Valerie Edwards (the also newly cast Michelle Forbes), and case officer Hector DeJean (Rhys Ifans), who becomes Meyer's mentor.
The ten-episode series will begin shooting this fall and air on EPIX in the fall of 2016.
"We are very happy to have found our Daniel to join this incredible ensemble cast," said Mark S. Greenberg, president and CEO of EPIX, in the casting announcement. "Richard is a singular talent who has the presence and attitude to bring this character and story to life."
Also landing a series regular role this week was Will Yun Lee, who is currently starring in Strike Back as Kwon, the North Korean operative who is the closest ally of - and ex-lover to - main antagonist Li-Na (Michelle Yeoh). Per reports, Lee has nabbed a part in the USA drama pilot Falling Water, which is co-created and written by Blake Masters (Brotherhood) and the late Henry Bromell (Homicide: Life on the Street).
He'll play LAPD Detective Taka, who winds up on the trail of an obscure, dream-obsessed cult, in the story of three unrelated people who realize they are dreaming separate parts of a common experience. David Ajala and Lizzie Brochere also star in the pilot, which is being produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead).
Strike Back continues Friday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Cinemax.
