Richard Armitage finds out he's not on WhatsApp group with Stay Close co-stars live on ITV

Stay Close: Richard Armitage wasn't added to cast Whatsapp

Richard Armitage, 50, is currently promoting his new Netflix mystery thriller Stay Close. Other stars include Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt and Sarah Parish, who "excluded" the actor from the cast's WhatsApp group.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her breakfast show this morning, Richard was promoting his new drama.

The host, teasing the interview, said: "Up next, it's a thriller with so many twists and turns that the cast needed a Whatsapp group just to keep up."

After Lorraine congratulated Richard on his show, the actor replied: "The Stranger did really well for them [Netflix] and we're really happy that Stay Close, I think it's number one in 43 countries.

"But I can't believe there was a WhatsApp group, nobody told me about that."

Lorraine quickly replied: "Oh no, are you not in the WhatsApp group with all the cast?"

Shaking his head Richard responded "no", leading her to quickly evaluate the situation.

Lorraine said: "Seriously? Are you not? Maybe there wasn't a WhatsApp group so let's just forget about that."

Richard then jokingly answered: "I'm texting Harlan [Coben] now."

The actor took to Twitter after the morning show to talk further on the subject.

In view of his 236,400 followers, Richard penned: "@lorraine @ITV Thanks for the chat. I'm finding out who was on that #StayClose Whatsapp group right now. In person next time."

Many took to the comments to laugh about the situation and question the star.

Young_Ox_Libra commented: "Lovely to see you on Lorraine again. I hope you catch up on your sleep."

Stay Close is the latest thriller by crime author Harlan to be adapted by Netflix.

The show was bound to be a hit after the success of his other Netflix adaptations, The Stranger and Safe.

The Netflix adaptation follows a similar story to the novel, with three of the main characters being haunted by the disappearance of an individual 17 years earlier.

This includes photographer Ray Levine, housewife Megan Pierce and Detective Broome, who investigated the disappearance and befriended the missing's wife and kids.

At the moment, Stay Close has not been renewed for a second season.

It's a limited series, which usually means that we're only going to get one season.
