Netflix's Obsession built special sex scene set to prevent being spotted by neighbours
EXCLUSIVE: Obsession sees a married man's illicit affair with his son's girlfriend, who he secretly meets at a flat for sex - but he cannot contain his need to be with her.

Obsession has almost landed on Netflix with the saucy thriller dropping all four episodes on Thursday, April 13. William (played by Richard Armitage) finds himself entangled in a complicated sexual relationship with his son Jay's (Rish Shah) mysterious girlfriend Anna (Charlie Murphy). To keep their affair on the down-low, the pair meet at Anna's friend's flat which she takes care of while she is away.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Obsession.

Netflix's Obsession was filmed predominantly in London and Paris when Jay and Anna visit the capital for a romantic weekend away.
However, many of the interior scenes, predominantly Anna and William's sex scenes, were shot at Twickenham Film Studios.

The studio – previously home to The Duchess, Poirot, Black Mirror and Inside No.9 – became an essential part of keeping certain things under wraps.

During the premiere of the raunchy new Netflix series, Armitage joked about the real reason they chose to film their most intimate moments there.

He told press, including Express.co.uk: "It was a decision by [producer] Gina Carter and our producers and directors to actually build something they had control over - it made the whole thing more of a cocoon.

"Because it would have been difficult to shoot that in a location with neighbours popping their heads in."
While this may have been a joke, directors Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D'Sa confirmed this to be the case.

He said to BT that he wanted the actors to feel as if they were in a "cocoon".

"It helped us to create exactly what we wanted from that apartment - a kind of otherworldly, liminal space", Leyburn commented.

D’Sa continued: "When William goes through the door of that apartment it’s almost as if he’s entering a dark fairy tale.

"It's a world that exists outside of convention, outside of their everyday lives.

"It’s a cocoon, a separate place they’re creating just for themselves through the language of their bodies."

Obsession is based on the 1991 novel Damage by author Josephine Hart, although there have been some changes made to the plot.

One of which is instead of the story being told just from William's perspective, it's also seen through Anna's eyes.

Another difference is that in the novel, William is a politician whose inappropriate relationship leads to his professional downfall.

But in Obsession, he is a surgeon who gains fame for performing a difficult surgery on newborn twins.

Damage was brought to the big screen by Louis Malle a year after the book came out in the 1990s.

The movie starred the likes of Miranda Richardson, Rupert Graves and Jeremy Irons.

Richardson was nominated for an Oscar and won a BAFTA for her role as the wife.

Obsession premieres on Thursday, April 13, on Netflix.
