Exclusive: Into the Storm first look teaser: Twister meets Paranormal Activity

Into the Storm, a new disaster thriller starring Richard Armitage and Sarah Wayne Callies, has debuted its first look teaser exclusively through Digital Spy.

The Steven Quale-directed movie, a mix of Twister and Paranormal Activity, follows a group of high school students who document a devastating tornado attack in the US.

The first trailer for the film will premiere online tomorrow at 5pm GMT.

Alongside Hobbit star Armitage and The Walking Dead's Callies in the cast are Jeremy Sumpter, Nathan Kress, Matt Walsh and Kyle Davis.

Into the Storm will debut in US cinemas on August 8 and August 22 in the UK.

New 'Into the Storm' Trailer: Extreme Weather is Coming to Get You!

From mudslides to twisters to tremors and painfully cold polar vortexes, Mother Nature has not been kind to us lately. This summer, The Hobbit trilogy star Richard Armitage and former The Walking Dead beauty Sarah Wayne Callies find themselves facing Mother Nature's wrath -- multiplied exponentially -- in the extreme weather thriller Into the Storm, and we have a first look at the stunning teaser trailer!

Taking place over the course of a single day, Into the Storm is set in the town of Silverton, which finds itself ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. As the courageous townsfolk seek shelter and try to help others around them, hungry storm chasers veer directly into the vortexes of the deadly, unpredictable cyclones -- and the worst is yet to come...

Directed by Steven Quale (Final Destination 5), Into the Storm also stars Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights), Matt Walsh (Ted), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Where the Devil Hides), Arlen Escarpeta (Final Destination 5), Nathan Kress (iCarly) and Jon Reep (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay).

Following hot on the release of the first teaser trailer for this found-footage tornado flick, director Steven Quale (Final Destination 5) and actors Richard Armitage and Sarah Wayne Callies came out to introduce footage from the movie that's full of destruction, way more than what we see in the new teaser. This footage showed a lot more tornado destruction as they tore apart buildings and ran rampant through a used car lot throwing cars everywhere. If the movie is meant to revive the disaster films of Irwin Allen and more recently Roland Emmerich, it certainly looks effective, although it's hard to tell if the found footage aspect will work and whether this works and isn't another Twister will rely wholly on the characters, something we get no sense of at this point.

"Promises" "flawless effects"? Das Risiko bei einem CGI-lastigen Film ist immer, dass die Effekte als offensichtlich und nicht realistisch zerrissen werden....Nachdem die CGI im Hobbit so viel Kritik einstecken musste, vor allem nach den ersten Trailern, bin ich nicht zuversichtlich, dass ITS besteht. Ich glaube gar nichts, ehe ich nicht Stimmen gehört haben von Leuten die Ausschnitte gesehen haben und nicht in die Produktion involviert sind.

It's an effective trailer, and that crazy money shot at the end of full-sized jets being lifted off of an airport runaway and all thrown together is completely bananas. If the film can offer thrills of that magnitude al the way through, it could be a big crazy late-summer hit for New Line. We'll see.

Lowdown: An even longer preview than the trailer that dropped earlier today, "Storm" goal is to portray a town under siege from a massive number of tornadoes. Now, when the massive storm hits an airport and jet liners are swooped off the ground? Well, this writer's suspension of disbelief was probably lost. More important for WB? The audience of theater owners loved it.

Red flag Alert! The home of DC Comics and Harry Potter faces a summer without a prebranded hero franchise. And its most anticipated film, Godzilla (pictured, May 16), faces a huge challenge: Redeem the monster lizard 16 years after Roland Emmerich's update was laughed off the big screen. Bryan Cranston stars in the $160 million-plus production. Insiders say Edge of Tomorrow (June 6) and the Channing Tatum-Mila Kunis epic Jupiter Ascending (July 18) might do better overseas, akin to 2013's Pacific Rim. Both were pricey: Edge cost $175 million to $200 million, and Jupiter cost as much as $150 million.
Exhibitors, treated to footage of Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys (June 20), say it is an odd choice for the 83-year-old filmmaker but believe it will play to older patrons and fans of the musical.
Warners also is banking on comedy, with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's Blended (May 23) and Melissa McCarthy's Tammy (July 2). "[Blended] is one of the best-testing comedies we've seen," says Fellman of the film, in which the stars play single parents trapped on an African safari.
