Bloody Bits: All About NBC's 'Hannibal'

We’re focusing on all things ‘Hannibal’ this morning!

With NBC’s deliciously gruesome show, Hannibal, set to return to TV “sometime this summer,” it’s tough to get excited. We still don’t have a third season premiere date set yet, so it’s not excitement we all currently have stored up within us; it’s angst.

Still, based on what I read on Twitter today (sorry – I’ve been busy the last week or so!) the first episode of season three is going to make this interminable wait 100% worth it:


This is a bold claim – after all, the Hannibal writers did come up with the body-inside-a-horse episode – but if this show has taught me nothing else, it’s that the writers in the Hannibal Room are not afraid to try ANYTHING. If the DeLaurentiis Company claims they have outdone themselves, I believe it!

More good news for all of us Fannibals:


The show received six nominations for this year’s Saturn Awards, including Best Actor in a Television Series (both Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy were nominated for this), Best Supporting Actor (Laurence Fishburne), and Best Network Television Series. Congrats to everyone on the show – you all definitely deserve the recognition!

Zachary Quinto checks into Hannibal

Zachary Quinto has landed a guest-starring role on Hannibal, EW has learned exclusively.


Quinto, who is currently starring on NBC’s The Slap, will appear in at least one episode of the third season as a patient of Bedelia’s (Gillian Anderson). Anyone else hoping his character will be as crazy as his American Horror Story role Bloody Face?

The casting of Quinto, also well-known as this generation’s Spock in the Star Trek reboot, marks a reunion with Hannibal boss Bryan Fuller, who was a writer on Quinto’s breakout series Heroes.

Hannibal is slated to return to NBC this summer.

'Hannibal' Spoilers: Season 3 To Feature Young Francis Dolarhyde, His Grandmother In Flashback Episode?

Kids are a rarity on "Hannibal" (and for good reason, considering how dark it gets), but we'll see at least one in Season 3 — according to his IMDB, Canadian kid actor Devan Cohen will play young Francis Dolarhyde in the ninth episode of the season. The novel "Red Dragon" features a number of flashbacks, so we're not surprised to see the series is headed in the same direction.

Since a big part of why Dolarhyde became a killer lies in his relationship with his domineering, often cruel grandmother, we're assuming she'll be featured in the flashback (or flashbacks) as well. (If this is the case, she has yet to be cast.) It also remains to be seen how extensive the flashback/s will be and whether they'll make up the bulk of the episode.

"The Hobbit" star Richard Armitage was brought on as present-day Dolarhyde in mid-January, after much speculation about who would take on the role. He'll be featured in the last six episodes of Season 3. Rutina Wesley of "True Blood" fame will play Dolarhyde's love interest, Rita, while Nina Arianda will appear throughout the back half of the season as well, as Will Graham's wife Molly.
