'X-Files' Alum Gillian Anderson Marries Hannibal For Season 3 Premiere

The last season of "Hannibal" ended with audiences at the edge of their seats: with everyone bleeding to their deaths, Hannibal is seen boarding a plane that's headed to France with Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier. The NBC-released short implies that after flying off to France, Dr. Bedelia is the significant other of the titular character played by Mads Mikkelsen.

The former "X-Files" alum stars as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, a psychiatrist and colleague of Hannibal who retired from the profession after an accident with a patient. Dr. Du Maurier was a recurring character in season 2 and is now expected to become a full-time cast in season 3.

ScreenCrush narrates how the trailer exploits the marriage trope montage, explaining the chemistry between Hannibal and Bedelia, which includes death threats against one another.

However, Bedelia is not the only returning character that fans of the psychotic thriller series will be eager to see. Dr. Frederick Chilton and Dr. Abel Gideon, played by Raul Esparza and Eddie Izzard, respectively, have been slated to return.

Fans of the original book series by Thomas Harris should rejoice as well, as characters from the novel "Red Dragon" such as Molly, Reba McClane, and Francis Dolarhyde will appear, played by Nina Arianda, Rutina Wesley of "True Blood," and "The Hobbit" star Richard Armitage, respectively.

The novel character of Rinaldo Pazzi is also forcasted to make an appearace soon, but no name has been reported as yet. However, Lady Murasaki's Chiyo, who has been confirmed to be Tao Okamoto, who last starred in "The Wolverine," will surely be a feat on its own.

With the recent developments in this psychological thriller, the season premiere on June 4 will surely put fans at the edge of their seats once again.

“Hannibal” Staffel 3: Richard Armitage ist der perfekte Dolarhyde

In der 3. Staffel „Hannibal“ wird sich nicht alles nur um den Kannibalen drehen, dem die Flucht nach Europa gelungen ist. Im Juni 2015 lernen wir eine andere Kult-Figur von Thomas Harris kennen: Der britische Schauspieler Richard Armitage verkörpert den Serienkiller Francis Dolarhyde. Bryan Fuller, Schöpfer der NBC-Serie, spricht erstmals über die Entscheidung, Armitage für die düstere Rolle zu besetzen.

Zuletzt begeisterte Richard Armitage ein Millionenpublikum in der Verfilmung von „Der Hobbit“. Diese Rolle streift er jetzt ab, um für Bryan Fuller und „Hannibal“ zum Serienkiller zu mutieren. In der 3. Staffel der NBC-Serie werden wir ihn als Francis Dolarhyde sehen. Bereits 2002 verstörte Ralph Fiennes in „Roter Drache“ in dieser Rolle. Fuller will die Zuschauer in die Irre führen

Richard Armitage hat sich ganz unbewusst in Fullers Vorstellung von Dolarhyde geschlichen, wie der Produzent jetzt zugegeben hat. Schuld daran wären vor allem gemeinsame Freunde und Freundesfreunde gewesen, die in den höchsten Tönen von Armitage gesprochen hätten. „Als wir dann das erste Mal über Dolarhyde gesprochen haben, hatte ich [Richard Armitage] im Hinterkopf, weil ich dachte, er wäre großartig [für diese Rolle]“, erzählt Fuller im Interview. Armitage besitzt die perfekte Erscheinung für Dolarhyde, Fuller beschreibt sie sogar als „Shakespearischen Präsenz“, was besonders für diese Rolle sehr wichtig gewesen wäre. „Ich wollte, dass die Zuschauer wegen diesem Charakter so verwirrt sind, dass sie ihn kennenlernen und sehen, dass er ein Mann ist, der darunter leidet, dass ihn sein Wahnsinn bei lebendigem Leib verschlingt.“

“Richard hat mich umgehauen”

Es war wichtig, dass die Zuschauer ihn nicht von Anfang an als das kennenlernen, was er tatsächlich ist. Bevor er als wahnsinniger Killer wahrgenommen wird, war es wichtig, Dolarhyde als verletzlichen Mann darzustellen, der Probleme hat, sich in seinem Umfeld zu behaupten. Fuller war es wichtig, dass Francis Dolarhyde weniger wie ein Monster dargestellt wird, sondern mehr als ein Mann mit Fehlern, der ein Opfer seines eigenen Wahnsinns ist. „Richards [Darstellung von Dolarhyde] hat mich umgehauen“, schwärmt Fuller. „Die Crew liebt diesen Kerl, aber sie hatten auch Angst vor ihm, weil er in seiner Rolle einige verrückte Dinge macht, er ist ein großer Mann, der einige gruselige Sachen sehr gut macht.“ Eine bestimmte Szene hätte sogar dazu geführt, dass die Crew bei den Dreharbeiten nach Luft schnappen musste. Wir sind schon gespannt auf Armitages Version von Francis Dolarhyde.

Hannibal returns in the US on 4th June, and hopefully soon after in the UK, for its third season and the tease has already begun.

Following the release of the Bride of Hannibal trailer this week that’s had fans wondering if Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) and Bedelia (Gillian Anderson) really have married, the new publicity shots for the season have been released.

You may remember at the end of season 2 the fates of Will (Hugh Dancy), Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) and Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) were all hanging in the balance but it seems that all three characters will be back for the third season. Is this a major spoiler for fans or is the show simply playing with us until the season premiere arrives?

Also present in the shots is new cast addition Tao Okamoto who will play Chiyoh, Lady Murasaki’s handmaid.

Hannibal returns to NBC this summer with for its third season. This year stage and screen actor Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) joins the cast as Francis Dolarhyde, A.K.A The Red Dragon. Recently, showrunner Bryan Fuller opened up about the size of Armitage’s role, calling him the “third lead,” alongside Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Hannibal Lector (Mads Mikkelsen).

Hannibal is coming back this summer and it is bringing in Richard Armitage to play Francis Dolarhyde. If you are not familiar with Dolarhyde, you will be. The Great Red Dragon is going to be a major part of Season 3, as executive producer Bryan Fuller recently told Digital Spy:

"He is in the show almost as much as Hugh and Mads are in the second half of the season. So we really spend a lot of time with Dolarhyde, in a way that neither of the movies have had the real estate to."

Fuller went on to take us inside the head of the lip biting madman, adding:

"A lot of what we see with Dolarhyde is just him alone in a room struggling with his insanity. I wanted the audience to be so confused with this character because we get to know him, and we get to see this man who is suffering, from his mind eating him alive from the inside out."

Hannibal TV Trailer: Season 3 touts critical acclaim in new promo

Hannibal Season 3 is coming down the pike, and Bryan Fuller is teasing the return of the show by reminding us of the critical acclaim it has.

We are just weeks away from the premiere of Hannibal Season 3, and Bryan Fuller is probably more excited for the show’s return than anyone else around it. Fans are no doubt anticipating the series’ return, but it’s been Fuller out front hyping the series and getting us all worked up for it’s return.

Bryan Fuller showed off a new promo for Hannibal that touts it’s critical acclaim and 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

This isn’t something that is irrelevant, as people see Hannibal and either assume the show is too gory or that it’s as bad as the most recent entries in the Hannibal series.

The critics love the show and for good reason. It’s well written, it’s tightly acted and the show isn’t afraid to be it’s own thing in a world where everyone tows the line and plays by the rules. Hannibal plays ball and doesn’t go overboard but it also doesn’t cut things that NBC might want cut and isn’t afraid to put on a show those involved want to.

Hannibal Season 3 returns on June 4th on NBC.

As ravenous as Fannibals are for footage of Hannibal newcomer Richard Armitage as Francis Dolarhyde, the minds behind the series are just as eager for us to see it.

After posting that the Hannibal crew “look at Season 3 almost like 2 seasons” and that we “probably won’t see Red Dragon promos until later,” the Twitter account for co-production company DeLaurentiis Co. added that fans will be glad they held out.


Dolarhyde won’t be introduced until the season’s eighth episode, The Great Red Dragon, which will take place at least a few years after the events of the season’s first half. (DeLaurentiis Co. already confirmed there’s no plan for a break in the season.) By that time, Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) will have had a fair amount of time to stew in the Baltimore Hospital for the Criminally Insane, carefully guarded under the watchful, prying eyes of a vengeful Frederick Chilton (Raul Esparza).

The Red Dragon will give Hannibal plenty to do, though, once Will (Hugh Dancy) realizes he can’t track down the killer on his own and approaches his former friend/nemesis for advice. Depending on how closely the series follows the Red Dragon novel, we might even see Hannibal sic Dolarhyde on Will and his new family.

If that’s the case, we could finally see the end of Will and Hannibal’s bromance. Will might be able to forgive Hannibal for the whole enflaming-his-encephalitis thing, sending a former patient to rip him to shreds, gutting him with a linoleum knife, and, well, all the other insane shenanigans he pulled in the first two seasons, but orchestrating an attack on the Graham clan might be the final straw.
