Er war bereits Superman ("Man of Steel"), qualifiziert ihn das als James Bond? Der Brite war jedenfalls schon 2006 im Rennen für die Rolle - doch der Part ging damals an Craig.

„Ich würde es sehr gerne machen, natürlich“, gestand er „Yahoo Movies“. „Ich denke, Bond ist eine großartige Rolle. Sie ist britisch, sie ist cool. Jetzt, wo ich ein Mission-Impossible-Absolvent bin, kann ich echte Stunts machen und das Ganze noch verbessern.“


Idris Elba

1972 in London geboren

Der Brite galt vielen als Favorit, die Gerüchte, er würde der erste schwarze James Bond sein, begleiteten ihn seit Jahren. Mitte August sagte er nun klar "Nein" zu einer entsprechenden Frage eines Reporters. Manche hoffen vielleicht noch, dass es trotzdem etwas wird mit Elba. Die erforderlichen Eigenschaften dürfte er jedenfalls haben.


Tom Hiddleston

geboren 1981 in London

Mit seiner sanften Stimme würde der Brite die Damenwelt einlullen, aber beherrscht er Action? Als Loki in "Thor" und "Avengers" war er eher flink als schlagkräftig. Andererseits: James Bond ist ohnehin kein Haudrauf ...


Damian Lewis

geboren 1971 in London

Der Brite wurde durch die US-Serie "Homeland" weltbekannt. Er soll erste Wahl der Bond-Macher sein, schrieb die britische Boulevardzeitung "Daily Mirror" vor der "Spectre"-Premiere. Als Henry VIII in der Shakespeare-Serie "Wolf Hall" bewies er seine schauspielerischen Qualitäten.


Michael Fassbender

1977 in Heidelberg geboren

Immer wenn es um prestigeträchtige Besetzungen geht, fällt sein Name: Michael Fassbender. Der Sohn eines Deutschen und einer Irin, der in Irland aufwuchs, gehört zu den gefragtesten Charakterdarstellern. Auch der Action ist er offenbar nicht abgeneigt.


Tom Hardy

geboren 1977 in London

Der wilde Brite gilt ebenfalls als heißer Kandidat für den nächsten James Bond. Für seine Rolle in "The Revenant" könnte er heuer den Oscar als bester Nebendarsteller bekommen. In dem Film spielt er einen Bösewicht - an abgründigen Figuren hat er viel Erfahrung aufzuweisen. Ob er auch schick und charmant sein kann, müsste er erst beweisen.


Chiwetel Ejiofor

geboren 1977 in London

Für seine Darstellung in "12 Years a Slave" wurde Chiwetel Ejiofor für den Oscar nominiert. Mit ihm würden die Bond-Macher den mit Craig begonnenen Weg konsequent weiterführen: Auch Ejiofor kommt nicht aus dem Actionfach und hat Tiefgang.


Chris Hemsworth

geboren 1983 in Melbourne

Der Australier will mehr sein als nur "Thor", das beweist seine Rollenauswahl. Nach mehreren Actionfilmen spielte er einen Hacker in Michael Manns "Blackhat", für "Ghostbusters" erforscht er gar sein komödiantisches Talent und mit Ron Howards "In the Heart of the Sea" ging er auf Wal- und Schauspielpreisfang. Was gegen ihn spricht: Er ist Australier und als etablierter Star käme er der Produktion nicht gerade billig.


Jack Huston

geboren 1982 in London

Jack Huston hingegen ist gerade am Sprung: Heuer wird der Brite in "Ben-Hur" auf der Leinwand zu sehen sein. Einem breiten Publikum wurde er als Richard Harrow (der Mann mit dem halben Gesicht) in der Fernsehserie "Boardwalk Empire" bekannt.


James Norton

geboren 1985 in London

In Großbritannien sorgte Norton durch die BBC-Mini-Serie "Krieg und Frieden" heuer für Furore. Den richtigen Vornamen für die Rolle hat er schon mal.


Aidan Turner

geboren 1983 in Irland

In den "Hobbit"-Filmen spielte der Ire den Zwerg Kili. Als Ross Poldark im BBC-Achtteiler "Poldark" brach er - in Strumpfhosen gekleidet - Frauenherzen. Heuer kommt Turner mit der Vincent-van-Gogh-Filmbiografie "Loving Vincent" ins Kino.



Clive Owen

geboren 1964 in Coventry, England

Der Engländer ist vier Jahre älter als Daniel Craig - falls die Bond-Produzenten eine Verjüngung ihrer Hauptfigur planen, ist Owen aus dem Rennen. In der Serie "The Knick" über einen Arzt im 19. Jahrhundert zeigte er Mut zum moralischen Abgrund. Aber auch in actionreichen Filmen wie "Inside Man", "Die Bourne Identität" und "King Arthur" machte er gute Figur.


Luke Evans

geboren 1979 in Pontypool, Großbritannien

Evans gehörte zum "Hobbit"-Cast und war in "Smaugs Einöde" sowie in "Die Schlacht der Fünf Heere" als Bard der Bogenschütze zu sehen. Sonst spielt Evans gerne in Actionfilmen mit - etwa in mehreren Teilen der "Fast and Furious"-Reihe sowie "Dracula Untold". Den richtigen Durchbruch schaffte er damit bisher nicht. Der Waliser wäre der erste schwule Darsteller, der Bond spielen würde.


Richard Armitage

geboren 1971 in Leicester, England

Der Brite neigt zu düsteren Rollen, ob im BBC-Mehrteiler "North & South" oder der Fernsehserie "Hannibal". Armitage vereint Tiefgang mit sprödem Charme. Allerdings: er ist nur wenig jünger als Craig.


Benedict Cumberbatch

geboren 1976 in London

Der "Sherlock"-Star selbst glaubt selbst zwar nicht, dass er Chancen auf die Rolle hätte, aber wie heißt es: Sag niemals nie. Im Herbst kommt die Comicverfilmung "Doctor Strange" mit Cumberbatch in der Titelrolle ins Kino. Darin kann er seine Kampfkünste beweisen - und vielleicht die James-Bond-Produzenten doch noch überzeugen.


Sam Reid

geboren 1987 in New South Wales, Australien

Der Farmersohn aus Australien wurde für seine Rolle in "Dido Elizabeth Belle" (ein Film über ein schwarzes Mädchen in der britischen Aristokratie im 18. Jahrhundert) von den Kritikern gelobt. Heuer wird er in der HBO-Fernsehserie "Codes of Conduct" von "Twelve Years a Slave"-Regisseur Steve McQueen zu sehen sein. Abgesehen davon ist er noch ziemlich unbekannt im Filmgeschäft - als James Bond wäre er das nicht mehr.


Richard Madden

geboren 1986 in Elderslie, Schottland

Gerüchten zufolge soll der "Game of Thrones"-Star (er spielte Robb Stark) Chancen auf die Rolle haben. Er bezauberte als Prinz in "Cinderella" und kommt heuer - an der Seite von Idris Elba - mit dem Actionfilm "Bastille Day" ins Kino. "Darf ich auch eine Waffe haben", will er darin von seinem Co-Star wissen. Diese Frage müsste er als James Bond nicht mehr stellen. Plus: Seit "Skyfall" wissen die 007-Fans, dass Bond schottische Wurzeln hat. Da hat Madden als gebürtiger Schotte natürlich einen Vorteil gegenüber seiner Konkurrenz.


Emily Blunt

geboren 1983 in London

Gestatten, mein Name ist Bond, Jane Bond. Dass die Rolle des Geheimagenten tatsächlich mit einer Frau besetzt wird, ist wohl illusorisch. Wenn doch, wäre Blunt eine gute Wahl: In Filmen wie "Sicario" und "Der Teufel trägt Prada" bewies sie ihre Vielfältigkeit. Heuer kommt die Engländerin mit dem Action-Kracher "The Huntsman: Winter's War" auf die Leinwand.

Gillian Anderson

geboren 1968 in Chicago, USA

Gillian Anderson brachte sich selbst ins Spiel: "Es ist Bond, James Bond", überschrieb sie einen Tweet mit einer Fotomontage von sich vor dem 007-Logo. Hierzulande ist die Wahl-Londonerin vor allem als Agentin Scully aus der Serie "Akte X" bekannt, doch sie spielte in mehreren hochgelobten Serien wie "The Fall" und "Hannibal" mit - und ist auch auf der Bühne erfolgreich.

Darsteller kommen und gehen, doch James Bonds Einsatz für Ihre Majestät geht immer weiter. Mit "James Bond 25" absolviert Daniel Craig 2019 vermutlich sein letztes Abenteuer als 007. Höchste Zeit, sich über einen Nachfolger Gedanken zu machen.

Attribut: Der Knallharte

Mit Daniel Craig wurde ein besonders, wir wollen mal sagen, kerniger Darsteller ins "James Bond"-Franchise geholt. Diesen Weg könnte man mit Tom Hardy als Nachfolger locker weiter beschreiten. Auch wenn Hardy häufiger Bösewichte verkörpert (so in "Legend" oder "The Revenant"), hat der extrem wandlungsfähige Brite echte Starqualitäten. Immerhin: In der John-le-Carré-Verfilmung "Dame, König, As, Spion" von 2011 durfte er schon mal britische Agentenluft schnuppern.


2. Idris Elba
Idris Elba könnte als James Bond eine neue Ära für den Geheimagenten einläuten.

Attribut: Der Intuitive

Es wird schon seit einiger Zeit gemunkelt, dass Idris Elba die neueste Reinkarnation von James Bond verkörpern könnte – auch wenn sich der Darsteller selbst inzwischen keine Hoffnungen mehr macht. Er wäre der erste nicht-weiße Darsteller, dem diese Ehre zuteilwird. Für Fans und offenbar auch Jamens-Bond-Produzentin Barbara Broccoli ist dies schon längst überfällig.

Doch natürlich qualifiziert Elba viel mehr als seine Hautfarbe für den Part. Schon als Heimdall im MCU und Gunslinger in "Der dunkle Turm" bewies er sein Starpotenzial. Und wer ihn als DCI Luther in der gleichnamigen BBC-Serie gesehen hat, legt das Schicksal der Welt gerne in seine Hände.


3. Richard Madden
Nach seinem Durchbruch als Robb Stark stehen Richard Madden beruflich viele Türe offen.

Attribut: Der Humorvolle

Mit jedem neuen Darsteller verjüngt sich James Bond wieder, was durchaus Sinn ergibt. Zum einen ist der Part körperlich sehr herausfordernd und zum anderen soll er ja gleich mehrere filmische Einsätze bestreiten.

Alles Faktoren, die "Game of Thrones"-Star Richard Madden in die Hände spielen könnten. Zumindest Jed Mercurio, der Autor seiner aktuellen Serie "Bodyguard", meinte laut Digital Spy, es gäbe keinen besseren Kandidaten. Maddens Bond könnte 007 einer neuen Generation schmackhaft machen und den Agenten Ihrer Majestät vielleicht wieder humorvoller gestalten.


4. Michael Fassbender
Stärke gepaart mit Coolness? Für Michael Fassbender überhaupt kein Problem.

Attribut: Der Charmeur

Wer Michael Fassbender in "X-Men: Erste Entscheidung" als Magneto gesehen hat, wird dem Deutsch-Iren das Potenzial als Agent Ihrer Majestät nicht absprechen. Neben seiner körperlichen Präsenz ist der Darsteller dafür bekannt, mit seinen Rollen regelrecht zu verschmelzen. Auch könnte er die charmante Seite von 007 wieder herauskitzeln, wie sie besonders von seinen Vorgängern Roger Moore und Pierce Brosnan kultiviert wurde.


5. Henry Cavill
Auf einen Schnurrbart wie in "Mission: Impossible 6" müsste Henry Cavill als 007 wohl verzichten.

Attribut: Der Gentleman

Wer auf der Suche nach einem Gentleman-Spion ist, stolpert früher oder später auch über Henry Cavill. In "Codename U.N.C.L.E." gab er zwar den CIA-Agenten, aber fürs "Bond"-Franchise würde der gebürtige Brite sicher zum Überläufer werden. Dass er mehr als interessiert an dem Part ist, offenbarte Cavill im Interview mit Yahoo Movies UK.

Nicht nur, dass er gerne wieder einen Briten spielen würde, mit den Dreharbeiten zu "Mission: Impossible 6" fühlt er sich mehr als gerüstet für 007-Stunts. Dass der" Superman"-Darsteller ein Franchise wie "James Bond" stemmen könnte, davon sind auch wir überzeugt.


6. Charlie Hunnam
Hat gut lachen: Charlie Hunnam ist auch nach dem Ende von "Sons of Anarchy" gut beschäftigt.

Attribut: Der Waghalsige

Nach dem Aus für seine Erfolgsserie "Sons of Anarchy" macht sich Charlie Hunnam vor allem auf, um das Kino für sich zu erobern. Doch trotz Auftritten in und als "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" und "Papillon" lässt der große Hit noch auf sich warten. Doch wer weiß, vielleicht wartet mit James Bond die größte Rolle seiner Karriere noch auf den Briten. Rein physisch könnte er den Part gut ausfüllen und auch schauspielerisch liegen Hunnam heldenhafte Charaktere.


7. Tom Hiddleston
Tom Hiddleston kann sich offenbar keine großen Chancen für die Rolle des 007 ausrechnen.

Attribut: Der Analytische

Und neben Idris Elba treibt sich ein weiterer Brite im MCU herum, der Potenzial als Agent Ihrer Majestät hätte: Loki-Darsteller Tom Hiddleston. Doch offenbar stehen die Chancen für den Londoner leider nicht allzu gut. Laut einer Quelle von Page Six, der Gossip-Kolumne der New York Post, mag Barbara Broccoli den Schauspieler nicht. Er ist ihr offenbar "etwas zu selbstgefällig und nicht tough genug, um James Bond zu spielen". Wir könnten ihn uns dennoch als einen 007 vorstellen, der ähnlich wie Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan eher zufällig zum Superagenten wird.


8. Richard Armitage
Für das Heimatland: Richard Armitage spielte schon mehrfach einen Agenten, so wie auch in der Netflixserie "Berlin Station".

Attribut: Der Geheimnisvolle

Auch wenn Richard Armitage erst in der "Hobbit"-Trilogie seinen internationalen Durchbruch feierte, ist der Darsteller im britischen Film und Fernsehen schon lange eine feste Größe. So spielte er unter anderem in der BAFTA-prämierten Agentenserie "Spooks – Im Visier des MI5" drei Staffeln lang den mysteriösen Einsatzleiter des Inlandsgeheimdienstes. Damit dürfte er auch für den filmischen Einsatz im Ausland als 007 mehr als gerüstet sein. Fans werfen seinen Namen wiederholt als Bond in die Runde. Ob was daraus wird, entscheidet die Dame mit dem Gemüsenamen.

Hauptrollen mag der Waliser selten spielen, doch hat er sich nicht nur mit Auftritten in den "Fast & Furious"- und "Der Hobbit"-Franchises einen bestimmten Ruf erarbeitet: der des Action-Stars mit emotionalen Facetten. Diese könnte er auch als James Bond spielen lassen. Ob ihm die Chance dazu gegeben wird, ist eine andere Frage ...

Now that Bond 25 has a new director and release date (following a series of unfortunate production hiccups), it finally looks as though Daniel Craig will be saying his goodbyes to 007 within the next couple of years. The question of who will replace him and play the new James Bond, then, looms large in the background. Bond is a cinematic icon that requires a lot of commitment and tenacity from the person willing to potentially play him (or, indeed, her), so the hunt for the right actor is no easy casting call. There's plenty of theories, fan picks, and rumours out there as to Craig's follow-up, and we've compiled the most convincing suspects here. These are the actors we think could play James Bond once the next movie finally comes and goes from theatres.

Richard Madden

Two months ago, no one was talking about Richard Madden as James Bond. In fact, few were talking about the actor at all, talented as he is. Following his bloody departure as Rob Stark in Game of Thrones, Madden's starred in a few films and TV shows here and there, but it wasn't until this year's Bodyguard - the taught crime thriller that's been breaking viewership records on the BBC - when people began to see him as a future 007. His performance as David Budd, a stoic, Scottish action hero for the modern age, certainly fits the bill for Bond, and Madden's much deserved spotlight could well throw him officially into the running once Craig departs the franchise. But will there be a Bodyguard season 2, and could that affect the actor's availability for MI6? Best to watch this space.

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill is an obvious choice. He auditioned for the role at the same time as Daniel Craig and Casino Royale director Martin Campbell has stated that he approved of his Bond, despite Cavill being just 22 at the time. And have you seen him in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.? If that's not a Bond look, I don't know what is. Cavill wants the role too, recently telling Yahoo Movies that "Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool. [...] So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask, I would say yes." With the recent reports that Cavill is supposedly leaving the DCEU as Superman, you might think his scheduled just freed up to be the new James Bond, but don't forget, he's still got The Witcher Netflix series to keep him occupied.

Idris Elba

The longer this discussion goes on, the more people want Idris Elba to play Bond it seems. No doubt, it’s time for a non-white Bond to step into the spotlight, and the Luther star certainly has the characteristics needed to play 007 - good looks, an impressive physique, and charm to spare. After Prometheus and the Thor franchise, he's got a credible Hollywood career to support his casting too, and his name even came up in the infamous Sony leaks as someone who could possibly take over the role. Former 007 Pierce Brosnan has championed him, and even Elba himself has been tacitly pining for the role on social media. Does he know something we don't?

Damien Lewis

Damien Lewis is the current frontrunner, if you believe the tabloids. Put him in a tux and he instantly looks like a classic Connery-style Bond. An actor of dazzling intensity, his role as Brody in Homeland proved that he can play the espionage game with the best of them. He would, however, be a very different sort of Bond to Craig, lither and arguably more elegant. Maybe it's time for that change, but would that appeal to fans of Craig's more rugged, bulldozer approach?

Jon Hamm

We'll be honest, we can't see this one happening, but wouldn't it be wonderful? The Mad Men star is a master of subtly portraying the disquiet beneath the surface of his matinee idol good looks. He already looks like a super-spy, and it's very easy to imagine him sitting behind the wheel of an Aston Martin. But would audiences take to an American Bond? Perhaps if the series embraced the long-standing fan theory (seemingly debunked by Skyfall) that James Bond is just as much a codename as 007.

Gillian Anderson

The Gillian-Anderson-for-Bond team has been gaining momentum in recent months and why not? There’s nothing to say that 007 can’t be a woman. Sure, the character is traditionally misogynistic and testosterone-driven, but these aren’t things that can't be adapted or changed for a more modern Bond. Plus, Gillian Anderson would make a great Bond. She’s already had plenty of practice wearing a suit and kicking-ass as Agent Scully in The X-Files and anyone who’s watched her stare down fellow agent Mulder knows she can keep her cool. Michael Fassbender

File under: it'll never happen, but wouldn't that have been nice? Anyone who has seen X-Men: First Class can't have failed to have notice that Fassbender played the young Magneto as, essentially, a Nazi-hunting Sean Connery Bond. He's sharp, slick, deadly and devastatingly handsome, so why won't it be him? Well, for a start, his career is stratospheric right now. He's the star of two big franchises in the form of the current X-Men movies and whatever the Prometheus/Alien: Covenant franchise is now. He definitely doesn’t need Bond to make him a star; then again, it's a tough role to turn down.

Richard Armitage

Before The Hobbit trilogy, Armitage was best known for Spooks and the BBC's muddled Robin Hood, where he played Guy of Gisborne. Appearances on The Vicar of Dibley further cemented his status as a telly hunk, but perhaps that was all. But then Dwarf King Thorin Oakenshield came along and gave his career a big old boost (ironic, given the character's diminutive stature). Bond would be another serious step up in his career, but he's more than capable of making the leap, as he proved in Hannibal as Francis Dolarhyde - another versatile performance. An outside choice, perhaps, but I think he'd be a good one.

Tom Hardy

Remember when Tom Hardy was just the villain from the really bad Star Trek: The Next Generation flick, Nemesis? Well, those days are long gone. Now one of the most acclaimed and bankable young actors in the world, his impressive performance as both Ronnie and Reggie Kray in Legend, not to mention is more understated yet superb turn in Mad Max: Fury Road, has proven what an incredible talent he is. And Brosnan thinks it would be a good idea too (he clearly can't make his mind up!), telling The Mail on Sunday’s Event Magazine: “I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it.” As with Fassbender, however, it might be an odd move at this point. Bond tends to define careers, and Hardy is doing a good job at carving out his own eccentric niche as it is. Still, he looks good in a suit.

Jamie Bell

Now this is a weird one, but rumour has it that Fantastic Four’s Jamie Bell has been talking to producers about playing Bond so into the pot he goes. I can’t say I’m convinced to be honest, especially after that mediocre performance in the absolutely horrific Fantastic Four reboot, but Bell did start out with an award-winning performance in Billy Elliot as a kid, so we know he’s got acting chops. He might actually just be what the producers are looking for as someone who isn’t hugely well-known yet. Can I see him as 007 though? Not really.

Tom Hiddleston

Welcome to the it’s-looking-very-likely entree in the form of Tom Hiddleston. Unlike Jamie Bell, we know for sure he’s been talking to Bond producers, and as a British actor of the right age who looks good in a suit, he’s in a pretty decent position to take over a Bond. Yes, it’s actually that easy. He’s a big enough name to draw in the crowds thanks to the MCU, and his more recent performances in High-Rise and Crimson Peak prove he’s got the depth to do something more than play Thor’s evil little brother for eternity (don’t forget he also played a hotelier turned spy in the superb The Night Manager). More importantly, he’s at the point in his career where making a sidestep into Bond territory would be good for him. What’s that Tom? You already have an Aston Martin on standby?

Ist sie doch

... George Lazenby war kein Übergang bzw. nicht als solcher geplant, sondern wurde suspendiert, weil er in den 70er Jahren zu PR-Terminen zum Bond-Film mit Bart auftauchte und das den Filmbossen nicht gefiel...

Noch. Und danach übernimmt Henry Cavill, der dafür den 'Witcher' nach der ersten Staffel sausen lässt. Oder doch Damian Lewis, der dann verhindert ist.

Marvel Is Already Thinking About A New Actor To Play Wolverine

With the Marvel/Fox deal expected to close soon, both studios are already looking ahead at how they could combine their universes. While it’s most likely that Marvel will reboot most of the X-Men franchise and reintroduce new actors in the MCU, characters like Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will most probably stay on.

Now, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed more of their plans regarding Wolverine to IGN. And it definitely won’t include Hugh Jackman.

“Yes, because Hugh, just the physicality of it all, just to bulk up, this man worked so hard to bulk up… his natural state, they used to call him ‘worm’ when he was a kid, his natural state is a very skinny guy. And once you reach a certain age, the body just won’t go anymore, and I think he was wise to say, ‘I’m at that point, I can’t do it.’ That doesn’t mean he can’t come back as older Wolverine – you never know. Future Wolverine, you never know. I don’t know what Kevin’s thinking, honestly. I don’t even think Kevin knows yet, I think Kevin’s still dealing with this wealth of characters and trying to make sense of it all.”

Marvel Is Already Thinking About A New Actor To Play Wolverine

Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed the X-Men will come under Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios. “I think it only makes sense,” Iger said. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.”

With that said, it’s great to hear that we might see Logan back on screen soon, even though the X-Men joining the MCU won’t be enticing enough to bring Jackman back. Since Jackman’s retirement from Wolverine, we’ve seen many fan casts. Among those listed are Keanu Reeves, Richard Armitage, Scott Eastwood, Tom Hardy, Travis Fimmel, Jai Courtney and Taylor Kitsch.

Whether Feige will attempt to find a young unknown actor to embrace the Wolverine role or hire an established older actor to add their spin on the character will be revealed in due time.

Bond. James Bond. There are few characters in all of cinema who need as little introduction. Since his creation by Ian Fleming in the 1950s, James Bond has gone on to become one of the most ubiquitous, iconic characters in all of film and literature. There have been many definitive portrayals of the character, ranging from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan and all the way to the current Bond himself, Daniel Craig.

But with Daniel Craig reportedly itching to leave the role behind, and planning to exit his time as 007 after the release of the forthcoming Bond 25, it's the perfect time to start really thinking about all the potential actors who could soon find themselves up for consideration for the career-defining role. Here, we take a look at ten current actors in Hollywood who have proven themselves to be capable of playing the MI6 agent who prefers his drinks shaken, not stirred.


10 Tom Hardy

On the one hand, it might be hard to see someone like Tom Hardy in the role of James Bond after his roles as Eddie Brock aka Venom in Venom, and Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. These heavily genre, villainous role stand in direct opposition with the cool composure and suave nature that a role like 007 would require from any actor.

But Hardy's work in other films, including Inception, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, This Means War, and Legend have shown that he has what it takes when it comes to portraying a true leading man and action hero. He has seemingly endless charm in these varied roles, and shows himself to be quite gifted in any form of combat scene that the roles require of him.


9 Dan Stevens

Whether you know him best as Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey, Prince Adam aka The Beast in 2017's live action Beauty and the Beast, or David Haller in FX's Legion, it's clear that Dan Stevens has what it takes to portray truly versatile characters. He can play characters that are truly unhinged at one moment, and completely charming in the next.

He's capable of being a romantic, but also a true menacing threat. And above all, he looks damned good in a suit, regardless of what time period or setting the new Bond films could be set in. Dashing, intimidating, and romantic - three important traits for any good Bond, and three traits that Dan Stevens boasts in spades.



8 David Oyelowo

The call for a Black actor to play James Bond is one that has become louder and louder in recent years, as the push for diversity has rightfully taken center stage in many discussions in Hollywood. A British actor of Nigerian descent who would make a terrific James Bond is David Oyelowo.

Perhaps best known for his portrayal of Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 2014 film Selma, Oyelowo has more pertinent experience to the role of Bond that audiences may not be aware of. He had a supporting role in the 2012 thriller Jack Reacher, as well as a major role in the polarizing 2018 film The Cloverfield Paradox. And early in his career, from 2002-2004, he played an MI5 agent in the British spy drama Spooks.


7 Richard Madden

While Game of Thrones' Robb Stark may not exactly seem like a perfect choice for a character like James Bond, actor Richard Madden has proven time and again in various roles since leaving Game of Thrones that he has what it takes to fill 007's incredibly daunting shoes. Movies like Cinderella have shown that he has the romantic, charming, suave personality down to a science, while his work in series such as Medici: Masters of Florence show that he can be cool, calm, and calculating, too.

But it's perhaps his turn as PS David Budd in the BBC One/Netflix series Bodyguard that shows, above all else, he is a true action hero leading man in the making - and absolutely perfect for representing a new generation's introduction to James Bond, too.


6 Richard Armitage

Richard Armitage may be best known to American audiences for his work in period dramas such as North & South, and the trilogy of The Hobbit films. He may also be recognized for his work in the cult hit series Hannibal, or his turn as Guy of Gisborne in the British series Robin Hood. But his work in other, lesser known to international audiences series show that, despite being one of the older candidates on this list, Armitage could be the man for the job.

As Lucas North, a member of the MI5, in the British series Spooks, Armitage is basically already a miniature James Bond in training. In recent years, the EPIX drama Berlin Station has allowed Armitage to return to the world of spies and subterfuge, showing that he definitely has what it takes to step into the MI6 game.


5 Aidan Turner

As it turns out, Richard Armitage isn't the only alum of The Hobbit trilogy who would do a pretty good job as James Bond. Aidan Turner, best known for his role as Ross Poldark in the lush period drama series Poldark, has all the necessary charisma and suave screen presence to command a series of action packed Bond films. Poldark himself mirrors Bond's personality in many ways, but that role isn't the only one that has given Turner the experience he would need to take on 007.

The 2009-2011 British sci fi series Being Human allowed Turner to flex his brooding badass muscles as vampire John Mitchell, and in the 2015 Agatha Christie adaptation And Then There Were None, he played the dastardly, mysterious, deadly Philip Lombard - a character it was impossible to keep your eyes off from the moment he set foot on screen.



4 John Boyega

John Boyega may be the youngest actor on this list, but it isn't difficult at all to picture a future in which Boyega is helming a Bond series of his own. At only 27 years old, Boyega has already proven himself to have incredible acting talents in drama, comedy, and action, showing that he would be able to handily take on any action packed Bond narrative, while also managing the necessary moments of levity and romantic drama at the same time.

Boyega may be best known for his work as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but his roles in Detroit, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and Attack the Block have more than shown the strength of his talent as a lead in any kind of film, no matter what sort of heavy material is thrown his way.


3 Chris Hemsworth

James Bond meets Bondi Beach? It's not totally out of the question. While Chris Hemsworth wouldn't be the first Australian actor to take on the role of James Bond, he would be the first to do so since George Lazenby in 1969. But Hemsworth would also arguably be one of the best known names to take on the film, having already established a career-defining role for himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor.

But Hemsworth has what it takes to be the next Bond, since he'll likely be putting the Norse god of thunder behind him soon. His action star power is undeniable, as is his swoon worthy charm. And he cuts a damn fine figure in a suit, if the teasers for the Men in Black reboot are anything to go by.


2 Matthew Goode

A quiet favorite for the role of James Bond comes in the form of a man who has already given voice to the character - in audiobook form, at least. Matthew Goode has appeared in countless debonair and dashing roles, whether romancing Lady Mary in the final season of Downton Abbey, or serving some serious steely and sultry looks as 1,500 year old vampire Matthew Clairmont in A Discovery of Witches.

Films like Park Chan Wook's Stoker and The Imitation Game have also shown that he can be dashing and dangerous in equal measure. And as we've previously mentioned, the 40-year-old Goode has already brought life to 007 in the audiobook version of the Bond novel Forever and a Day.

1 Idris Elba

Far and away the frontrunner in most discussions of the next actor to take on the 007 title, however, is Idris Elba. Although one of the oldest actors on this list, Elba has long led the list of contenders for the first Black James Bond - and when you look at his impressive body of work, it's not hard to see why.

Elba first broke onto the Hollywood scene with his stellar work as the powerful drug ringleader Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire, showing his perfect brand of quiet lethalness from the very beginning. But it's inarguably his long time role as DCI John Luther in the British crime series Luther that shows that Elba may be the best candidate of them all when it comes to playing the dark, dangerous, badass, charming James Bond. With John Luther, he basically already has.
