Abbolita Films has ramped up its nascent distribution partnership with XYZ Films, acquiring multiterritory rights to “Green Room,” “Brain on Fire,” “’71” and “Pilgrimage,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Abbolita and XYZ launched the alliance at Cannes, involving acquisition and distribution of films in Turkey, Portugal, Greece, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
“Brain on Fire” stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Thomas Mann and Jenny Slate and is currently in production in Vancouver. The film will be released in partnership with Broad Green Pictures, which will distribute it in the U.S.
“Pilgrimage” recently wrapped production in Ireland and Belgium. The pic stars Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal and Richard Armitage in the story of 13th century monks on a perilous journey to escort their monastery’s holiest relic to Rome.
Abbolita, headed by Tim Nye, produced and financed Kevin Smith’s “Yoga Hosers,” starring Johnny Depp; “Life After Beth,” with Aubrey Plaza and Dane DeHaan; and “Life of Crime,” starring Jennifer Aniston.
XYZ is currently handling sales for Toa Fraser’s political thriller “6 Days,” starring Jamie Bell, Mark Strong and Abbie Cornish, currently in post-production.
