Man darf sicher gespannt sein - 'Rehearsals begin on Sept 1st'.

Ich finde ja auch das sehr interessant:
Zitat:
"Salome" will be a highly physical production. Formal dance training is not required but an intrepid level of physical intelligence, curiosity, and willingness is crucial.

Wie physical er sein kann, hat er erst wieder in Hannibal gezeigt  ..

“They say that love has a bitter taste … But what of that?”

Internationally acclaimed adaptor/director Yaël Farber infuses this raw New Testament tale with evocative sound and physicality, drawing on ancient biblical and pagan texts, as well as Oscar Wilde’s landmark mystery play, to spin a tale as provocative as the Dance of the Seven Veils. Salomé marks STC’s entry in the Women’s Voices Theatre Festival with a world premiere adaptation by Farber, returning to STC after her Helen Hayes Award nominated Mies Julie.

Salomé was commissioned through a grant from the Beech Street Foundation.

Musical that turns Rosalie into a Bobbie dazzler: New production and company will see the show's hero become a heroine

By Baz Bamigboye for the Daily Mail
01:12 GMT 25 Nov 2016, updated 01:22 GMT 25 Nov 2016

Rosalie Craig will be starring as Bobbie

Composer Stephen Sondheim has given permission for an award-winning director to change the gender of the main character in his musical, Company.

The show's hero, Bobby, will become heroine Bobbie, played by Rosalie Craig, in the production, which will be one of the cornerstones of a new theatre troupe, Elliott Harper Productions.

The group has been formed by director Marianne Elliott — who has won Olivier and Tony awards for her productions (originating at the National Theatre) of shows including War Horse and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time — and producer Chris Harper.

Both declared they wanted to introduce a 'jolt of danger' into the West End mix.

Their first season will begin next autumn. It will run for just over a year and will launch with the European premiere of Simon Stephens's play, Heisenberg, one of the hits of the season in New York.

That will be followed by Oedipus To Antigone, to be directed by Yael Farber from her own adaptation.

Company will be the third show, and it will be followed by a new play and a comedy.

Elliott had been musing about reviving Company, but was slightly concerned that it's 'set in the Seventies and is very much about the time it was written.

'It's about this lovely, attractive 35-year-old man who has three girlfriends, isn't married and people in 1970 were concerned about that. And now people aren't bothered. They go: 'Good on you!' Elliott said.

But Harper suggested she turn Bobby into Bobbie.

Elliott jumped at the idea: 'If it's a 35-year-old woman, and set now, then 35-year-old women are starting to think about settling down. They are thinking about the body clock and they think: Should they be with someone permanent?'

'Suddenly, it became much more now.'

But there was a hurdle to overcome: she had to convince Sondheim himself, and he was initially reluctant .

'He was generous and lovely, but he clearly wasn't sure,' she said.

So Elliott suggested she conduct a workshop; and Sondheim agreed. She directed a then-pregnant Craig with other actors as they went about experimenting with the show's sex change. They filmed it, and sent the result to Sondheim in New York.

'He loved Rosalie and felt it really worked with a woman. He watched it with friends — and they loved it, too,' Elliott said.

Elliott and Harper also sent him revisions of the play text. The book stayed pretty much as George Furth wrote it, except for gender switches.

One character sings about having the perfect girlfriend for Bobby. But that has simply been changed to Have I Got A Guy For You for the new version.

In the original, Bobby has a fling with an airline stewardess named April. He's now called Andy and is a steward.

Also, character dynamics have been changed between two of Bobbie's friends Harry and Sarah, with Sarah becoming the stronger partner and Harry neurotic. There are other shifts, but you will have to wait and see when the show is staged.

Heisenberg is about two completely mismatched people who meet at King's Cross station.

'It's a love story really about how unpredictable life is,' Elliott said over tea for three at Soho House.

'They shouldn't be together, but they somehow find an amount of truth and love despite everything.'

Oedipus To Antigone is about the young woman from the Greek classics. 'She's only a young girl, but she's the one person prepared to stand up for something. She's trying to uphold civilisation and humanity,' said Elliott.

Harper said the play will feel very current. Casting has not yet been completed.

The partnership is in discussion with the West End's major theatre owners. Details of which theatre, cast and remaining plays will be announced in early 2017.

Watch out for...
John McCrea, who will play the titular role in Everybody's Talking About Jamie, the new musical by Dan Gillespie Sells (frontman of The Feeling), with a book by Tom MacRae. Director Jonathan Butterall came up with the idea, a coming-of-age story about a 16-year-old soon to sit exams who makes a decision regarding how much he should reveal of his secret life.

McCrea was in The Buskers Opera at Park Theatre earlier in the year and, notably, has a portrait of him by Phil Sharp hanging in the National Portrait Gallery. He's certainly an up-and-coming talent. The cast also includes Tamsin Carroll, Kirstie Skivington, Barney Hudson, Kush Khanna and Spencer Stafford. It runs at The Crucible in Sheffield from February 9 to 25.

Anna Madeley and Jemima Rooper who will play Helena and Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Young Vic, directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins from February 16. Joining them in this course of true love will be John Dagleish as Lysander, (he was in the Kenneth Branagh season, and portrayed Ray Davies in Sunny Afternoon) and Oliver Alvin-Wilson, currently at the National in Red Barn, as Demetrius.

Anastasia Hille will play Titania (Hille is Rosamund Pike's mother in Amma Asante's superb film A United Kingdom). Michael Gould, Matthew Steer and Leo Bill also have key roles.

Imelda Staunton has a new husband — for Follies that is! Peter Forbes will play Buddy Plummer married to Staunton's Sally Durant Plummer when it runs on the Olivier stage at the National Theatre in late 2017.

He joins Janie Dee and Philip Quast as Phyllis and Benjamin Stone. The women were Follies dancers who meet up years later in this musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman.

Auf ein frohes Spekulieren allerseits! :pfeif:
