Judi Dench, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Angela Lansbury will be among the star-studded line-up of theatrical talent handing out London theatre’s most coveted prizes at the Olivier Awards 2015 with MasterCard.
The world-renowned stage and screen performers join host Lenny Henry, who will preside over the glorious celebration of London theatre on 12 April at the Royal Opera House.
Guests on the night, who also include fellow prize-givers Dianna Agron, Anne-Marie Duff and Catherine Tate, will be treated to an incredible array of performances from some of this year’s nominated shows including all eight productions recognised in the MasterCard Best New Musical and Magic Radio Best Musical Revival categories.
Best Actress in a Musical nominees Beverley Knight and Katie Brayben will perform numbers from Memphis The Musical and Beautiful – The Carole King Musical respectively, while Cats’ Nicole Scherzinger, who is also nominated for an award at this year’s awards, will sing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic track Memory.
Other ceremony highlights will come from the cast of Sunny Afternoon, who will perform a medley of The Kinks’ greatest hits, and Here Lies Love’s leading lady and composer, Natalie Mendoza and David Byrne, who’ll bring the unique sound of the National Theatre hit back to London one more time.
In celebration of one of this year’s Special Award winners, Sylvie Guillem, Olivier Award-winning dancer and choreographer Akram Khan will make a special appearance, while My Night With Reg and Downton Abbey star Julian Ovenden will pay tribute to those that the industry has lost in the past year with a special performance as part of the ceremony’s in-remembrance section.
Dench, Ejiofor, Lansbury, Agron, Duff and Tate will be giving out those prestigious statuettes with the help of performers including Jamie Campbell Bower, Laura Carmichael, Lauren Cuthbertson, Emilia Fox, Adam Garcia, David Harewood, Lorna Luft, James Norton, Claire Sweeney, Russell Tovey, Michael Urie and singer Pixie Lott.
While all this is unfolding in the Royal Opera House, over at the Covent Garden Piazza from 17:00 the ITV stage will play host to free entertainment courtesy of This Morning Audience Award shortlisted shows Billy Elliot The Musical, Jersey Boys, Matilda The Musical and Wicked, with further performances still to be announced.
Theatre fans gathering in the piazza to watch the night’s proceedings on the big screen will be looked after by ITV stage hosts Alison Hammond and Michael Xavier. Individuals watching at home can not only stay up to date with all the action as it happens by following Official London Theatre and the Olivier Awards on Twitter but can also tune into ITV from 22:15 for a special highlights package.
